Learn to Paint with Pastels

Taught by Beverley Conrad

Saturday, March 28th, 2020

2:00PM-4:30PM

$20

Bring you own SOFT pastels and a kneadable eraser (links below)

This class will teach the basics of working with pastel chalk from how to choose materials to how to keep the colors clear and vibrant. Unlike wet paint, with pastel painting the colors are mixed on the paper as you go.  There’s a technique to this in order to keep the colors fresh! In this class you will learn how to create shadow and light and how to mix colors by shading a simple sphere to start, and then move on to an apple. Learn to coax a rainbow of colors from a limited selection of chalk, as well as how to fix mistakes without having the work turn to mud.

Instructor will have a variety of pastel chalks and paper types for demonstration.

Bring a set of soft pastels (NOT oil pastels or pastel pens. They will not work with this technique) available at local hobby and art shops, or via Amazon example here: https://www.amazon.com/Artists-Loft-Fundamentals-Soft-Pastels/dp/B019JDIOK6/

Also bring a kneadable eraser like this:

You’re welcome to bring your choice of pastel paper, however we will supply paper and apples.
